Let Them Entertain

Why can’t a movie be just a movie or a show be a show?  Not everything has an agenda.  I personally like to get lost in a show or movie.  It was meant to entertain and that is how I watch it… as entertainment.  I feel people are trying to find reasons to complain.  They don’t think about the time period it is trying to reflect or when it was originally created. 

When a show or movie was created about or in the 1950s, of course, it’s not going to be considered politically correct to these days.  Should you throw a fit about it?  No!  Remember things were different back then.  If you don’t like it, just don’t watch it.  Movies reflecting the past or the future, should not reflect the thinking of today.  They should be created to fit the times they reflect.  It wouldn’t make any sense otherwise.  We need to leave history alone and let the truth shine through.  If you try to erase the ugly history of yesterday’s today, it will be replaying in the future of tomorrow.

If I am watching a comedy, I want it to make me laugh.  If I am watching suspense, I better be on the edge of my chair.  A movie and show are meant to have us feel through the characters and music.  If those who watch it don’t get lost watching it, then the performers and music didn’t do its job.  But if all a person can do is complain about everything about it, then that wasn’t their type of show.  If you don’t like a lot of swearing, look for shows lacking that.  If you don’t like anything that reflects real life, there are plenty of options out there.

When you watch a movie or show, don’t have an agenda.  Just watch it.  Did it make you laugh at the funny parts?  Did the sad story make you cry?  Did you want to punch the villain in the face?  Did the storyline pull you in or make you fall asleep?  If you get hung up on the details of the things you want to see, you may miss out of some great shows or just miss the really good parts of what you are watching. So, try to just watch the show or movie… and relax.
