Turning Around the Let Down

Have you ever planned a vacation, but when you arrived it felt like a total let down?  When this happens, our minds tend to go to negative mode.  It won’t be as fun as we planned, the food won’t be as good as we hoped, we won’t be able to sleep in the hotel because it’s not what I pictured.  It’s hard to keep the momentum for a fun and exciting adventure when the first experience was negative or not what we pictured or hoped.  But you can’t let that one moment control your whole vacation.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and erase the negative thoughts out of your mind.  It is still your vacation or your adventure.  You will have to change the image you had in your head and go on without an image.  Forget about the plans (except those with a reservation) and just wing it.  Sometimes doing that is less stressful and more fun.  You may discover an activity that you didn’t see online when you booked the trip.  Try to enjoy the sunset and wake up once to watch the sunrise.  On a rainy day, go to a mom and pop coffee shop and enjoy a snack or meal.  Keeping an open mind after the vision was let go and then the trip will still be fun and exciting.  (And don’t forget to take pictures and video.)

I was always one not to schedule my days of adventure when I went on vacations.  I hate feeling I need a vacation after my vacation.  Taking it slow and easy seems to be more my speed.  I always think that I will always go back.  To be honest, my last real vacation was going to Disney World… now I live in Florida and it’s only twenty minutes from me.  I need to find a new place to visit.  Any suggestions?
