A lost young boy was standing at a crossroads staring at the signs. He wandered on his own without paying attention. He was sad, scared and confused. He watched several people pass by him going a certain direction. He thought to himself maybe that will take me home. All those people are heading there. He reread the signs. He decided not to follow the crowd.
He knew he lived in a big city, but didn’t remember the road name to get there. Today, his family is having a big celebration so he didn’t want to change that to a situation of loss or sorrow. So, he continued to stand there and look at the signs. He thought, “Why can’t these signs say what city they go to; not just the names of the road?” Another big crowd of people past by him going in a different direction. They seemed excited, but he didn’t recognize anyone so he stood still.
An old school friend stopped next to him. This kid got the young boy in trouble several times in school. “Follow me. I’ll show you the way,” the old classmate said as he started to walk away. The young boy smiled and took five steps toward his old friend. He stopped and thought about all the stuff that kid did to him in school. He waved him off and walked back to the crossroads.
There was one direction no one went towards. The young boy stood there for another moment. He had a nagging feeling in his heart that was the direction he was supposed to go. He set off in the direction of that lonely road. He walked for over a mile and started doubting himself. But despite his fear he kept going in the same direction. After another mile, he heard a voice call his name. He turned to look. There was his uncle. He was walking the same pace as his nephew, but his long legs got him twice as far.
Once the two met up, they both walked side by side talking and joking the rest of the way to the house. They saw the city expose itself beyond the trees as they walked down the road. Both exhausted from the long walk, finally arrived home in time for the celebration. The child’s mother sat next to her son and praised him for finding his way home safely. She gave him a huge hug and said, “You don’t have to go on adventures alone. Someone is always there for you.”
